A look Inside the Portfolio
As our comments early yesterday morning illustrate, we are not immune to the emotion of the moment. The latest oil market spurt above 140 has had its effect on our timing, but we are stubborn and continue to believe that the last $ 50 was more politics than demand. From a technical standpoint the market, basis the S&P in the short-term needs to go back and look at the 1331 area. To provide you some hard numbers on how our postions look as of the the June 30 quarterly close, and yesterdays close as we made no changes yesterday, we show the following:

At critical points it helps us to look at the internals of the portfolio and evaluate what has led to profits and losses. On a daily basis our total protfolio hit an all time record high on June 16, 2008. As of yesterdays close the total portfolio is down about 3 percent from that point. Of the major market changes since that date, the S&P 500 is down 5.5 percent, the dollar is down 2.0 percent, bonds are up 3,5 percent, crude oil is up 5.o percent, and gold is up 6.2 percent. By looking at these internals we can see what went right, and what went wrong and see if adjustments to our positions are needed.
